The book The Dress Maker of Khair Khana is the story of a real-life Afghan heroine whose business created jobs for women living in Kabul under the Taliban regime. The author met this woman, Kamila Sidiqi, in December 2005. The heroine started a dressmaking business that eventually employed over 100 women in her neighborhood.

About the Author
Gayle Tzemach Lemmon is a best selling author and journalist. She is also a Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations where she works on women's issues. She has traveled to Afghanistan as a journalist - and other conflict areas in the world as well. Her journalistic work has appeared in the Financial Times, New York Times, International Herald Tribune, the Christian Science Monitor, and other publications.
