Note: Gender now falls under the Advising
Functional Area of Gender as of early 2018.
While not considered one of the
eight essential functions
(8 EFs), gender is considered as a part of the overall essential
function structure. Some say that gender is cross-cutting across all of
the 8 EFs.

and security efforts through defence and security sector reform. Wittwer
served as a Gender Advisor to NATO operations in Afghanistan in 2013.

April 8, 2018, New Groundbreaking Facilities
for Women in the Afghan National Army, Resolute Support. A daycare
center and a women's training center at the MoD will open this year. In
addition, a pediatric and wellness center at the Kabul National Military
Hospital will open for women in the ANA. Germany, The Netherlands, and
Italy are supporting the projects.
